چکیده

Abstract We analyze a political competition model of redistributive policies. provide an equilibrium existence result and full characterization the net transfers to different income groups. also derive several testable predictions about way in which group after-tax Gini coefficient vary with main parameters model. In accordance theory, empirical evidence from sample developed developing democracies supports highly statistically significant association between: (i) transfer gap between population mean initial income, (ii) (and resp., coefficient) power sharing disproportionality. addition, data some confirming relationship poor Gini) concern parties inequality.

Current Sharing and Redistribution in High Power IGBT Modules

The Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is now the favoured power semiconductor device for most medium power applications. One major difficulty with current IGBT manufacturing technologies is the inability to produce chips rated at more than 100 amps both reliably and cost-effectively. To achieve higher current ratings, a number of chips are connected in parallel to form a module; up to 32...

Democracy, Redistribution, and Inequality

In this paper we revisit the relationship between democracy, redistribution, and inequality. We first explain the theoretical reasons why democracy is expected to increase redistribution and reduce inequality, and why this expectation may fail to be realized when democracy is captured by the richer segments of the population; when it caters to the preferences of the middle class; or when it ope...

Globalisation, inequality and redistribution

The present paper seeks to explain the pattern of income redistribution in a globalised world of increased market income inequality and lower costs of factor mobility. In some countries, larger market income inequality has been met by an increased redistributive effort, thus keeping the distribution of disposable incomes relatively stable. In other countries, larger market inequality has been a...

Economic Inequality, Redistribution, and Political Inequality

Based on individual and macro-level data collected in 18 OECD democracies, we find that income inequality at the macrolevel depresses electoral participation. At the level of individual citizens, we find that the effects of income differentials are linear: individuals who are below the median income in society are less likely to participate in elections, while those above the median income are ...

Inequality, public opinion and redistribution

According to the ‘median-voter’ hypothesis, greater inequality in the market distribution of earnings or income tends to produce greater generosity in redistributive policy. We outline the steps in the causal chain specified by the hypothesis and attempt to assess these steps empirically. Prior studies focusing on crosscountry variation have found little support for the median-voter model. We e...
